Mobile data usage to increase by a factor of 26 by 2015.

According to a report from Cisco, Global mobile data use almost tripled between 2009 and 2010. Unsurprisingly, iOS and Android devices led the growth, but the most surprising detail is that Cisco expect mobile data usage to increase by a factor of 26 by 2015.

Serving up your bandwidth hungry website, designed for desktop computers to mobile devices is far from ideal. Today's smartphone users expect a mobile optimised web experience. Consider for a moment the intent of someone on a iPhone who wants your contact information. Do they really need big images or a slideshow to load which will be slow on 3G? Do they want to fiddle about zooming in on the page so they can find and click the contact button? I doubt it. They probably just need to call you, maybe they are running late for a meeting, so why not make it easy for mobile users when accessing your website.

Do you need a separate mobile website?

With the advent of media queries you no longer need to invest more money in a separate mobile optimised website. Instead we can apply different styling and display rules based on the devices screen size using media queries. Media queries allow us to provide different information, optimised for popular screen sizes and turn off high bandwidth features such as your slideshow if the user is accessing your website on a small screen, such as a mobile phone. Navigation buttons can be made bigger (using your finger is less accurate than a mouse) and text size optimised so your users enjoy a better experience and can appreciate your attention to detail.

The Mobile optimised web becomes standard

Commotion have always worked hard to find ways to make customers happy. We were quick to adapt to HTML5, include support, social media features and provide the ability to add unlimited web pages without incurring additional costs. Now Commotion is doing the same with the mobile web. From 1st August 2011, on our PayMonthly webBusiness and webPremium solutions, mobile optimised style sheets will be included as standard. And on webPlus, our entry level payMonthly solution, it will be available as a low cost option at just £5 extra per month.

What is PayMonthly?

PayMonthly provides Commotion's customers with an affordable, professionally designed CMS based website for a low monthly fee, putting professional websites within reach of small business. You can add as many pages as you like, turn on features such as your Twitter feed, and even create your own layouts and move information blocks around with drag and drop ease. Every website is search engine friendly and includes a raft of standard features that you can turn on and off as and when needed.

Everything can be included too: web design, coding, training, hosting, ongoing support and software updates.  Complete business ready CMS websites start from as little as £50.00 plus VAT per month (excludng support).
